Party Cakes

2 Aug

Party cakes, party cakes, bakers man.  Bake me a cake as fast as you can.  Betty Crocker didn’t help on these.  They were made from scratch.  Even the oven time is more complicated here in Addis Ababa at 7500 feet above sea level.  Congratulations, Roman and Burke!  It was Party Time at LSI Ethiopia on Monday afternoon.  Roman had missed the graduation ceremony but she did not have to miss her party.  The staff had everything ready.  China made the cake.  Meti, Hilina, and Betty arranged the food, decorations and gifts.  Dereje was the MC and Paulos had the prayer.  Even our newest employee, Netsanet, helped out on her first day by taking pictures.   Each of the graduates shared their testimony.  It was in Amharic so Meti translated for us.  Their former lives were filled with heartache and pain.  The other women in our program were present with their children to join in the celebration as well.  There was a short invocation from Jeremiah 29:11-14 and Luke 4:18,19.  We read an email from Kevin and Erica conveying congratulations.  It all fit together around a meal of excellent injera and wot and a full deal coffee ceremony.  This is a milestone for the women themselves and their children, for our program here with the other women, and for LSM supporters in the USA.  Roman and Burke were the first two to complete vocational training and their achievement serves as a powerful example and a testimony of what God is doing as He shares hope with hearts here in Ethiopia.  Take time to read the scripture from Jeremiah and thank God for answering your prayers in our behalf.  We certainly are thanking God for each of  you.
