Out of the Closet

10 May

This week we have come out of the closet.  For Prayer.  When we were given our lessons on prayer, the first one was about seclusion.  Find some privacy.  Enter into your closet and shut the door.  Talk to the Father in secret.  So there are things on the approval list that we are supposed to do clandestinely.  God’s list is just opposite of Satan’s.  Satan says sin in private, pray in public.  God says pray in private…oh no, not sin in public…confess.  So what are we confessing?  Sorry, there is actually nothing juicy here, but most of you don’t like to gossip anyway.  Right?  Acknowledging is a very good synonym for confessing.  We are acknowledging our great need for prayer and this week we have come out of the closet with that need to set up an email list to be used to tell a very special group of people our special needs.  First we had to go through a digital house cleaning.  Then a compiling.  Then a survey test to determine if those on our list really wanted to be there.

Refinement.  Additions.  Subtractions.

It seems that God takes us through those same steps in life through prayer.  The same steps as we used in making a prayer list.  Yet his prayer model was very simple.  Just sixty-five words.  Seven sentences…allowing for the colon.

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come.  Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.  Amen

Across time, how much hope have those sixty-five words shared with hearts.  Those of you who have committed to being on our prayer list are sharing hope with our hearts as well.
