Countryside Interlude

11 Apr

Sunday after church…what do you like to do?  Slow things down-take a nap.  Spend time with family or friends.  Maybe something active.  Today, after church, eight of us (Kevin, Erica, Kristen, Elise, Abai, Celia) piled into the rented van and headed west to a place that translates into English as “Joyful Village”, (Desta Mender).  Our afternoon meal took about three hours as we talked, laughed, had coffee and dessert, (some had a second dessert), and strolled around the grounds in this large fertile agricultural compound.  It even included a small dairy barn, much to the delight of our Norwegian friend, Celia, who had once aspired to be a large animal vet.  The barn had around 20 free stalls filled with Holstein cows.  The tree lined lanes and flowering hedges set a scene of tranquility complete with the scent of pine, ample shade and a gentle breeze.  Our meal was served on the stone patio overlooking one of many vegetable plots arranged down the slope supporting gravity fed irrigation.  Spread out in the valley were pastures with cattle, sheep and horses.  Behind us we could occasionally get a glimpse of the summit of this mountain, perhaps another 1000 ft higher.  “I lift up my eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help.  My help cometh from the Lord who made heaven an earth.”-Psalm 121  One could experience David’s words with all of the senses as it shared hope with our hearts.  Those we needed to minister to were back in the city, but in those moments we were ministering to each other.

Thank you for keeping us included in your journey. We are able to visualize where you are, the need being met, what you are doing and walk along side of all, praying daily. We Love You.
